what is General Skilled Migration?
The General Skilled Migration program is for skilled workers who want to migrate to Australia. The program has three visa subclasses: the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189), the Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Regional Provisional Visa (subclass 489).
To be eligible for any of these visas, you must first submit an expression of interest through Skillselect and be invited to apply. You will need to meet certain criteria, including age, English language proficiency, work experience and skills. You will also need to have a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation.
If you are granted a skilled visa, you will be able to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident. You will also have access to Australia’s public healthcare system and be able to enroll in education and training courses. You may also be eligible for certain social security payments.
If you are interested in applying for a skilled visa, please contact a registered migration agent or lawyer for more information.
If you want to live and work in Australia as a skilled migrant, you will need to apply for permanent residence through the General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program. There are a number of steps that you will need to follow in order to successfully apply for permanent residence:
- Firstly, you will need to have your skills and qualifications assessed by the relevant Australian authority. This is to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for skilled migration.
- Once you have been assessed as being eligible, you will need to submit an expression of interest (EOI) through the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s (DIBP) SkillSelect system.
- If your EOI is successful, you will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
- You will then need to submit a detailed application, including all required documentation, to the DIBP.
- Your application will be assessed by the DIBP, and if successful, you will be granted permanent residence.
It is important to note that the above process is generalised and there may be some additional requirements that you will need to meet, depending on your individual circumstances. For example, if you are applying under the skilled independent subclass 189 visa, you will need to score at least 60 points on the points test.
If you want to increase your chances of being successful in your application for permanent residence through GSM, it is recommended that you seek professional help from a registered migration agent. They will be able to assess your individual circumstances and provide advice on the best course of action to take.
