Winning the national championship three years in a row is no easy task. However, Georgia is positioned to do just that in 2023. Coach Kirby Smart’s team won’t have quarterback Stetson Bennett or key defenders in Jalen Carter, Kelee Ringo or Christopher Smith leading the way, but the next wave of stars is ready to emerge in Athens. Carson Beck left spring as the frontrunner to replace Bennett at quarterback, and a couple of transfers – Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett – add to a receiving corps featuring the nation’s best tight end in Brock Bowers. New faces need to emerge at every level on defense. However, there’s little concern about this unit in ’23.
Previewing Georgia’s Offense for 2023
The Stetson Bennett IV era is over at Georgia, and it set a pretty high bar. Back-to-back national championships will do that. For the first time since 2016, Kirby Smart’s debut season at Georgia, the Bulldogs have a full-fledged quarterback battle on their hands. Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff battled it out in the spring, and they’ll continue to do so into the fall — likely even after the season starts.
Whoever wins the job will have plenty of weapons. The Bulldogs bring back Brock Bowers, the nation’s top tight end and arguably its top player, and some serious production at receiver with Ladd McConkey also returning.
Georgia dipped into the transfer portal and got the leading receivers from Mississippi State and Missouri — Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett, respectively. They are expected to make large impacts in Athens.
Odds
NCAA Football Odds show that Georgia is the heavy favorite to win it all again. This time they are listed at just +275 (2.75/1) odds. The next team on that list is Alabama at more than twice that (+750).
Free Football Picks says to stay away from this one. There simply isn’t enough value here at such low odds. They are missing their starting QB from the previous two championships and other teams out there will offer very stiff competition.
