No, I’m not mistaken in the title of this article, the Philips Momentum XBOX is really a 55-inch monitor and it can be easily confused with a TV, but actually it isn’t. And as its name suggests, it is a gaming monitor, specially designed for use on the XBox Series X | S, but it’s not exclusive to these platforms, and it can very well be used on other consoles, such as PlayStation 5.
It has everything video game lovers could want in a monitor, which is a 120Hz LCD screen, with 4K resolution (3840×2160 pixels), support for HDR and VRR… that is, what you are looking for in a device with a True HDMI 2.1 port .
In terms of connectivity, in addition to the HDMI 2.1 port I mentioned above, it has 1 Display Port, a USB-C port, 1 USB-B port and 4 USB 3.2 ports.
This Philips Momentum is heavy (Perfect Tech News), and largely because of its 55 inches (139.7 cm) and its soundbar that is connected to it. And despite not having any Xbox Series X in my possession, it’s easy to see that its design matches this console very well, as everything seems to have been designed with that console in mind.
To test this monitor I used my PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, and I can guarantee that Philips Momentum offers everything we need, or want, in a gaming monitor: better graphics and a lot of fluidity. The image quality is sharp and beautiful to watch. Colorful and fast-paced games like Mile Morales are truly impressive on this screen. Even in darker games like Demons Souls, the video quality performance is absolutely shocking, and it’s something all gamers should experience.
One thing to note is that the viewing angle is not as good as on a television, and this turns out to be a bit boring for those who play corporate games on, for example, Nintendo Switch, which require movement, and in this part it leaves a little to be desired , but the fault is also a bit of the Nintendo console, as it is limited to 1080p resolution.
And because games are not just about the image, I couldn’t stop talking about the sound, and that’s one of the strengths of this Philips Momentum. Its built-in soundbar, which has the signature of Bowers and Wilkins, we can say is impressive to say the least. Sound quality is ridiculously impressive with well-balanced midtones. Arguably, bass is important when it comes to games, with explosions for example. This is where things could be a little better, but I feel it’s despicable as the overall sound is really impressive.

Another noteworthy note is the fact that this monitor has a light source on the back. It may seem like a little gem, but the truth is that it helps reduce eye strain in less-lit places. And if you’re like me, who likes to play Call of Duty in a totally dark division, this is without a doubt a great resource. Besides, it doesn’t just emit a rear light, as it has several modes that can be chosen by the user. My favorite is the “follow video mode” which, as its name suggests, it follows the colors that are passing on the monitor itself, offering an even more immersive experience of the content we are enjoying.
Philips Momentum Final Verdict
As I’ve said throughout this review, Philips Momentum is a monitor and not a television. In other words, it doesn’t have the traditional features of a television, and unless you connect it to an operator box, you won’t be able to watch the television on it… and that’s not even what it was designed for.
However, as a monitor, everything is absolutely wonderful, from the sound to the image, it’s everything we need to have the best possible gaming experience. Besides, it has several modes that make its configuration as easy as you can imagine.
