If you can’t beat ’em, become one of them. That appears to be the philosophy behind Hard Light’s rapid rise in Destiny 2, not just in Trials, but also in Survival, basic Crucible, and, if I had to guess, Iron Banner today.
In Trials, the weapon has 5x the kills of the next closest major (SUROS), and it’s essentially a must-have and must-use on most maps until Bungie nerfs it, which appears to be a virtual certainty at this point. If you’re a newer or returning player, though, you could not have it and feel out of the loop or unable to compete.
However, Here Are All Of The Potential Ways To Obtain It:
-
Xur Has The Option To Sell It –
Granted, Xur only sells one weapon every week, and his pool is becoming very large, so your odds are slim. On weekends, Xur is a vendor that offers a rotating set of exotics for legendary shards; you may find them here on Friday reset. For additional shards, Xur also sells a “random” exotic engram, which will give you an exotic you don’t have. If Hard Light is on that list, you have the best “targeted” chance of receiving it, while the chances are still small.
-
Exotic Engrams On Battle Pass —
There are select exotic engrams on the seasonal battle pass that function in a similar way, in that they will offer you an exotic you don’t already have. They’re ranked 25, 60, 74, and 98, giving you four chances if you finish the game.
-
Milestone –
Aside from targeted engrams, completing weekly milestones, the strong drops marked by a yellow circle all across your map, are your greatest hope for exotics. This might be anything from three strikes to completing 8 Crucible bounties to finishing objectives on a flashpoint planet. You’ll obtain achievement rewards most of the time, but you can also receive exotics by finishing them.
-
Drops Engrams In The World –
Exotics can drop as engrams in the world, which doesn’t happen very often. You’ll generally see an exotic sub in between 3-5 Prime Engram drops. Again, this is a rare event that requires extensive gameplay, but it does happen.
-
Nightfalls Heroic, Legendary, And Master–
Higher levels of Nightfalls are currently the only activity that directly rewards exotics, but if you’re looking for a guide on how to achieve Hard Light, I’m thinking you’re not ready for this level of endgame content just yet, especially with the recent power increases. Legend has 1000 power, whereas Master has 1030 power and drops them regularly. Heroic has 970 power and drops it very rarely. However, this is most likely not the best move for new players.
What Was The Catalyst? You Can Farm This:
When you receive an exotic weapon, you’ll get a catalyst, which provides it a boost in some way. It’s especially useful for Hard Light since it increases its stability and turns it into the laser beam that is always killing you in Crucible.
Strikes and Nightfalls drop the Hard Light catalyst. The harder the Nightfall and the higher your score, the better your chances of seeing catalyst drops are supposed to be, however, I’m not sure. In a strike, this will appear as a drop from the last chest.
Once you get it to drop, you’ll need 1,000 Hard Light kills to finish it. It’s a lot, but there are worse weapons you could be using right now considering how powerful it is. Crucible kills, I suppose, are valued much more than normal PvE kills.
