Hair care is often difficult, especially when you don’t have time, but keeping your hair healthy and stylish can help you feel more confident and attractive. Creating a hair care routine is easy and it involves keeping your hair healthy and applying beneficial products to your hair. Luckily, your hair doesn’t need to be groomed every day, and many of your hair care routines can only be done once or twice a week.
Know your hair type.
Everyone’s hair is unique and often requires different treatments and care. Find out your own hair type and create the best hair care regimen possible. Leave your hair natural, without products for a few days and see how your hair develops. Your hair may look like this:
- Oily
- dry
- normal
- Corrugated
- curly
- thick
- Once you know your hair type, treat it accordingly. Your hair may react differently to certain products and conditioners than your friend’s hair.
Wash your hair when it is necessary.
Many people think they need to wash their hair every day, but the reality is that most hair types only need to wash every other day or even a few times a week. It matters, but it’s not just a habit, let’s wash it when it gets dirty.
- In general, people with fine straight hair need to wash more often than people with thick, curly or wavy hair.
- If your hair is dry, wash it every 3 days. If your hair is sticky, try washing it every other day.
- If it becomes sticky after a day, wash it daily.
- You can also use dry shampoo between washes to absorb some of the oil.
- For normal hair (not too dry and not too sticky), you should wash your hair every other day or every 3 days.
There is no perfect formula for how often you wash your hair. - Watch your hair and wash it if it’s dirty. Washing your hair too often can damage your hair by not restoring its natural oils.
Avoid washing your hair with hot water.
Hot water can actually strip your hair of the protective oils that act as natural conditioners.
Use a comb when your hair is wet:
After you get out of the shower, it can be tempting to run a brush through your hair because it’s a quick way to get rid of tangles.
However, a wide-tooth comb is the best way to remove knots after showering. The brush often catches and pulls the hair, causing breakage and damage, so use a comb and start at the bottom of the hair and work your way up.
Let your hair air dry.
Blow dryers are a quick way to dry your hair, but the heat from a blow dryer can damage hair follicles and leave your hair dry and damaged. If possible, let your hair air dry, but if you must use a blow dryer, use a blow dryer on a cooler setting.
Trim your hair regularly.
Hair is prone to split ends and can look damaged and unhealthy if left untrimmed for too long. Try to trim your hair about every three months. If you’re really prone to split ends, trim your hair every 6 weeks.
If frequent trips to the salon are a hassle or expense, cut your hair yourself. Invest in a pair of hair clippers and use a mirror to see the back of your head. When your hair is wet or straight the easiest thing to do is to trim it to a straight edge so that the ends are straight. If your hair is curly, it’s best to cut it when it’s dry or just slightly damp. Curly hair looks longer when it’s wet, so it may take longer to dry than you think.
Avoid messing with your hair constantly.
Don’t mess with your hair all the time. Your hair already contains natural oils, so if you constantly touch it or keep it away from your face, those oils will build up in your hair and make it sticky. It’s best to have a hairstyle that doesn’t get in the way all day.
