According to a person with firsthand knowledge of the arrangement, Boston Celtics guard/forward Jaylen Brown has agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract.
Due to the deal’s secrecy, the individual talked to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity.
The most lucrative contract in NBA history will begin to take effect in the 2024–25 season. There is no player option, and the deal features a trade kicker with full guarantee.
Next season, Brown will earn $31.8 million, and in the first year of his contract, $52.3 million. He will be paid almost $70 million when the deal expires at the end of the 2028–2029 season.
The two-time All-Star Brown, 26, averaged a career-high 26.6 points for Boston last season, earning second-team All-NBA accolades for the first time in his career.
Jayson Tatum inked a five-year, $163 million deal in 2020, and the new agreement keeps him and Brown together for the foreseeable future. Tatum’s player option won’t expire until after the 2024 season, but he will be qualified for a supermax extension the following year.
